Beverage paper packaging recycling network was not built for three years

Insufficient recycling costs, high costs, lack of awareness of citizen classification———

Where is the beverage paper package (represented by Tetra Pak) where milk and beverages can be recycled and reused? The Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce and related companies started setting up a recycling network for Tetra Pak in the Beijing community three years ago. Currently, progress has been slow. In the past three years, only a hundred communities in Beijing have had special people sorting and recycling, and the amount recovered was less than 10,000 tons. It will take time for the city to establish a beverage paper packaging recycling network.

■ More than 60,000 tons of annual consumption

Less than 10,000 tons recycled

According to Guo Zhenqi, the only director of Xinhongpeng Paper Co., Ltd., which specializes in decomposing Tetra Pak in paper, it is estimated that the volume of beverage paper produced in Beijing exceeds 500 million, and the weight reaches more than 60,000 tons. “Our factory's processing capacity is 10,000 tons per year, and Beijing recycles up to 5,000 tons of beverage paper packaging. The rest relies on Mengniu, Sanyuan, and Yili's packaging corners in Beijing and surrounding bottling plants. Satisfy production." Guo Zhenqi said.

It is understood that there is also a color music board factory in Beijing that can use 3,000 to 4,000 tons of Tetra Pak. Guo Guochang stated that less than 10,000 tons of Tetra Pak produced in the consumer sector were recycled and reused, and other items were basically disposed of as ordinary rubbish.

■ High recovery cost

3 years to promote more than 100 communities

It is understood that in 2007, the joint open source company that specialized in recycling the Lele bag under the support of the municipal commercial committee launched a special recycling outlet within the residential community. Now, this related business has been transferred to another private company - joint heyday.

The relevant person in charge who initially operated the project explained that at the time they had carried out recycling operations in more than 50 communities such as Haidian, and encountered many difficulties in recycling. Difficulties are mainly concentrated on the small amount of recycling, high transportation costs, and lack of classification awareness among residents. According to their calculations, a community may only collect up to one or two kilograms of Tetra Pak a day. There are not enough costs in the Beijing metropolitan area and the drivers do not even have enough costs. All these have limited the further development of outlets.

At present, Zhang Xuefei, the head of the joint venture that is taking over the recycling of paper and plastics from Tetra Pak, said that after efforts, they have expanded the recycling network to more than 100 communities. The sorting of beverage paper packages in these communities is mainly the responsibility of the cleaners. They also set up collection points in many large units, schools, and airports. The monthly recycling volume can reach more than 200 tons. "This number seems to be very small, but it is no small improvement for our recyclers."

■ Overcoming recycling problems

It is understood that three years ago, Beijing had planned to promote environmental recycling in the nearly 3,000 communities in Chengba District, and used the community as the source of beverage paper packaging recycling. The relevant person of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce said yesterday that he has taken note of relevant circumstances and is coordinating with relevant departments to study related improvement measures. "The whole society needs to work together to overcome recycling problems. It is convenient for residents to sell beverage paper packaging, promote community waste reduction, and improve recycling resource recycling efficiency."
